Indie Artists & Inspiration.

A typical Indie artist would be a single Male, aged between 18 and 25. Often they would play acoustic musical Instruments, normally guitar (however, modern bands such as Mumford & Sons have paved the way for more unusual or classical instruments to be used in this genre). Male Indie artists often appear casual, relaxed, and natural- not overly constructed to be a music-selling machine (however, using Dyer's Star Theory, you could argue that this relaxed style is just as constructed to appeal to the target audience, as the image of a pretty, preend Pop Princess) In more recent times, Female artists have begun to emerge on the Indie scene, but they normally also adhere to other genres, particularly Rock or Pop.

Famous Male artists in the Indie genre (or sub-genres) include Paolo Nutini, Mumford & Sons, One Night Only, James Morrison, The Maccabees, Kings of Leon and John Mayer. The artists which these form their inspiration from include The Beatles, Jeff Buckley, Paul Simon, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bob Dylan, Marc Bolan and Jimi Hendrix.

The Female artists who have now begun to change the path of the Indie genre include Adele, Duffy, Claire McGuire, Laura Marling and KT Tunstall. Their inspiration often derives from 'vintage' artists such as Dusty Springfield and Vera Lynn. Other females who come into the 'Indie Female' group, are not musicians, fashion is a huge part of the Indie genre, as it allows people to express their creativity and individuality, so nowadays, famous Indie music fans can be included into the genre, as it is more than just the music, these could include TV Presenter & Model Alexa Chung, who is famous for her love of Indie just as much as her for her fashion sense and Emma Watson, the Harry Potter actress, who is often seen walking the red carpets dressed in vintage clothes, and famously dated the Indie band One Night Only frontman George Craig

This is useful to me because I can research into the older artists which inspire modern day ones to see where the conventions originated and how they developed, as well as looking at dress codes of artists in the genre, as well as fans, to construct an authentic image for my video.
